It’s been a minute since I’ve shared one of my favorite songs for Monday Music, and I’m so happy to be back to kick off the week with Shafiq Husayn’s new album, The Loop.
I honestly had a difficult time selecting one song as a favorite from this album so I suggest my readers check out the entire thing. It is guaranteed to take you everywhere!
The Loop sounds like cultural meditation, and intergalactic hip-hop, funk, middle-eastern and soul fusion groove — mixed with a new-age spin to Bootsy Collins and Stevie Wonder styles, BUT with the unique flavor of Shafiq. It’s a spiritual and historical journey of music.
Sounds like a lot, right? … that’s what makes it interesting!
Shafiq’s album collaborations include Anderson.Paak, Erykah Badu, Om’Mas Keith, Robert Glasper, Dove Society, Jimetta Rose + Fatima and a few more. It feels so “big-city” and is peaked with west and east coast 1990s grooves I think you’ll enjoy.
It’s different. AND listen-worthy!
Go check it out.
