SummaTime Chi :: Festive of Music

It’s been about two years since I’ve attended a summer Chicago music festival, so I’m extremely amped about what the city has in store for Summer 17!

With all the heat we are about to endure, at least there will be some good music, food, drinks and free stuff to balance it all out. All the more reason to stay in the downtown and neighborhood streets of Chi-Town, to experience the fun and culture of the music world.

Led by my affinity for music, I found some dynamic, affordable festivals to attend and figured I’d share.

Grant Park Summer Music Series: It’s FREE!! This outdoor concert series will happen every Monday and Thursday, and goes on thru August 19th. To learn more, check out: https://www.grantparkmusicfestival.com/the-music/2017-season  for the full artist performance schedule and details!

Pitchfork Festival: Fashion, soul, grunge, funk, metallic and freedom are what come to mind when I think of the Pitchfork Fest. Free spirits will be ridin’ high in this atmosphere, and I can’t wait to be a part of it. Some of the familiar faces that you can expect to see are: Dawn Richards, Dirty Projectors, A Tribe Called Quest, Solange, Joey Purp and Angel Olsen.

This festival is July 14th-16th at Chicago’s Union Park, and ticket prices range from $55-$365. That 3-day pass for $175 is calling me! Maybe it will call you too! … Check out the daily music lineup here: http://pitchfork.com/festival/chicago/ .

North Coast Festival: This is a MUST-ATTEND! Hippies, Hip-hop heads, geeks, goddesses and Rastafarians are in order for this one! I’ll just say that North Coast Festival is for the finest of eccentrics and I’m supposed to be there!

Tank and the Bangas, Gucci Mane, Damien “Jr. Gong” Marley, Ween, Bob Moses, Big Boi and BadBadNotGood are just a few ready to get us on a high note.  The tickets range at $69.85-169.87. NCF takes place September 1-3 (Labor Day weekend). The 3-day pass ($169.87) is also the best deal for this one. See more details here: http://www.northcoastfestival.com .

V103 Summer Block Party: This one here is my baby! V103’s Summer Block Party-goers should prepare to re-enact that “good girl/bad boy” love, singin’ in the mirror with a hairbrush, conscious poetry lines and 90’s dance routines to keep them going all night. Jill Scott, SWV, BBD, Nelly and Kelly Rowland are about to define the word THROWBACK, and plenty will be there for it!…all of it!

Ticket sales are going pretty fast, but still have availability starting at $39.00. See seating charts and vendor details at: http://v103.iheart.com/features/3rd-annual-v103-summer-block-party-3008/ .

Lollapalooza: It’s about to be a cold one this year, y’all! Sultry swag, mystery, rock, imagination, love and revolution are what embody the Lollapalooza Music Fest.

Lorde, Big Sean, Rae Sremmurd, Phantogram, Allison Wonderland, Sampha, Sofi Tukker and NoName are just the tip of the iceberg, and it will give you chills when you see this damn list of performers!…Can you say turnt?!! Go check out this creative talent set to rock us all day and night on August 3rd -6th in Grant Park: https://www.lollapalooza.com/lineup/poster/

Light up your summer!
